What is Clinical Research ?

New Pharmaceutical Drugs, biological, herbal and natural remedies, nutraceuticals and  probiotic food products, and select cosmetics require drug safety and efficacy testing before they are introduced in the market. This testing for drugs on humans comprises Clinical Trials referred to as Phase I, II, III trials prior to their market launch & Phase IV after market introduction. The data collected from these trials has to be submitted to the respective health authorities such as the Drug Controlled General to seek marketing approval for introduction of the product.


Before a pharmaceutical company can initiate testing in humans, it must conduct extensive preclinical or laboratory research. This research typically involves years of experiments in animal and human cells. If this stage of testing is successful, a pharmaceutical company provides this data to regulatory bodies, requesting approval to begin testing the drug in humans.
