It incorporates concept design, exterior design, interior design and production design of all modes of vehicle transportation.

These qualities have a strong influence on the way designs are created, especially with regard to exterior designs and visuals. It also tends to drift into futurism and fantasy. Many designers find places in the film industry creating designs and models on film sets such as Star Wars and Blade Runner.

You’ve always been visual, seeing the world. You can’t pass a store display without thinking of 10 ways to improve it. As a professionals in fashion management, you go behind the scenes and beyond to drive the industry. You set the trends and sell the goods. You have an eye for style alongwith good business sense. You combine personal style, industry knowledge and merchandising expertise with communication skills and corporate finesse.

Floriane de Saint Pierre, a Paris-based head hunter whose clients include Gucci Group, says fashion managers are hard to find because the job is paradoxical. “If management is a science that can be taught, fashion is about culture, you need to have absorbed all the theory yet have totally surpassed it. Fashion management is about driving a brand with fast-changing products, yet it is also long-term artist management. Managers must be big-picture visionaries yet obsessed by detail. They need to be rational, tenacious, decisive leaders, yet also passionate moderators and not egoists.”

Fashion Retailing

What is Fashion Retailing?

What is in? What is the latest? Are the customers open to this new cut? Would the buyers prefer straight cuts or drapes? Is the fashion industry all about cuts and drapes and labels and brands? NO! Gone are the days when fashion was limited to designer labels and prêt lines as now it is an honest attempt to interact with customers to find out their expectations and desires regarding fashion.

India’s fashion industry is still in its infancy but there is a growing awareness among retailers and marketers. Visual Merchandising

What is Visual Merchandising?

It is the attention-getter – the lure or bait to capture the shopper’s eye — stimulate the senses — broaden the perception of the product and its features. It reaches out and holds the customer in a few seconds; it stops the shopper — captures his attention while he studies the product, thereby initiating its purchase. An integral part of any store or commercial space today, Visual Merchandising gives it a competitive edge over other establishments dealing in the same or similar products or services.

The question confronting every retailer is what encourages a customer to shop in one store rather than another? The answer: a coordinated effort that includes marketing, merchandising, store design, and visual merchandising. Visual merchandising today has become an indispensable and integral component of the fashion business. It is the tool or language that retailers use to communicate with the targeted customer. Visual merchandising is the passion and the pizzazz of retailing.

The essence of retail is defined by the ability to compel the prospective customer to stop, to look...

Toy Design

What is Toy Design ?

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing” – George Bernard Shaw. Play is how children have fun, acquire skills, experience success, and build self-esteem. Through play children figure out the world and where and how they fit in.

Through play children practice, reinforce and remember what they are learning.
Thus toys help children have fun, achieve success and lead happy, healthy lives.
As girls and boys create a toy or game, they experience learning as a fun, creative, collaborative process, relevant to everyday life. This results in a lot of “self-learning” – students learn things that they need to know on their own, and develop skills that they don’t always manage to do so in school.

There are different kinds of toys – toys that teach, that are games for the family and those that are just fun and play. Designing contemporary toys and games is now more competitive than those who play with them!

What is Art Restoration ?

Art is one of the backbones in the history of our society. People have expressed occurrences, daily life, thoughts, feelings and religion through art. It is through art that we can reflect on our past and look into our future, or submerge ourselves in a realm of vast beauty and serenity. Yet this backbone of our society is in danger of becoming “extinct.” Pollutants, fires, and different natural forces such as winds, water, and time have slowly decayed much of our art. One of the pollutants i.e. acid rain eats away at materials it comes into contact with, such as buildings, monuments and sculptures. Pollution from factories, coal electric plants, trains, and especially automobile fumes also cause serious damage to monuments. Many historical sites and cities like the Taj Mahal at Agra are battling deterioration due to environmental pollution.

The need for art restoration is therefore much needed in our country which has a rich cultural heritage of objects d’art as well as monuments. The work includes conservation, restoration and research of fine art and antiques, specializing in paintings, works...

What is Art History ?

Ancient art, medieval art, renaissance art, abstract art, surrealism, impressionism, modern art, contemporary art: Art is one of the backbones in the history of our society. People have expressed occurrences, daily life, thoughts, feelings and religion through art. It is through art that we can reflect on our past and look into our future, or submerge ourselves in a realm of vast beauty and serenity.

The study of Art History provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental changes which have occurred in both the institutions and practice of art history over the years. After the imperial Mughal ateliers, the tradition of miniature painting, for example, is generally seen as having passed on to the Rajput courts like those of Amer, Bundi, Kota, Kishangarh and then to the Company school. The schools of painting that flowered in the hill kingdoms of northern India are referred to as Pahari.

The art historian seeks to interpret and understand works of art of many types, ranging from the monumental to small scale, by learning about artists’ lives and their societies.

What is Art Direction ?

American Gangster, Atonement, The Golden Compass, among others, made it to the Oscar Nominations 2007 for their awesome art direction. Om Shanti Om got the IIFA 2008 award for best Art Direction. These awards recognize talent and achievement in art direction on a film.

Art Direction is what gives the film its “look and feel” edge. In advertising and print work, art directors (often in collaboration with a copywriter) come up with “concepts,” and creative ideas which communicate with us through theme, metaphor, and symbolism. Some art directors do little more than dream up these ideas and present them to clients, while some oversee almost all aspects of the design and production process. They have control over every visual aspect of a film, including costumes. This specialization, though not very technical in nature, has gained a lot of prominence in the past decade. It now demands a lot of creativity and understanding of various environments.
